40+ Years in International Finance and Banking
From Corporate Finance and Management to Private Banking, Wealth Management and Fintech
Over more than four decades, I have had the opportunity to work across different areas of finance, banking, telecommunications, technology and international business.
My professional journey began in the technology sector and progressively developed through financial management, controlling, corporate finance, executive management and international financial services.
What has remained constant throughout this journey is the importance of understanding how businesses operate, how financial structures evolve and how disciplined financial management can contribute to sustainable growth.
From technology to finance
I began my professional career at IBM, working as an analyst. This experience provided an important foundation in analytical thinking, business processes and structured decision-making.
I subsequently moved into increasingly senior financial positions within the telecommunications sector.
At Vodafone, I worked as a Controller, focusing on financial analysis and management control.
I then served as Finance Director at Fastweb, followed by a further Finance Director position at Colt Telecom in the United Kingdom.
These experiences exposed me to rapidly changing international businesses where financial discipline, operational efficiency and strategic decision-making were essential.
From corporate finance to entrepreneurship
Over time, my professional focus expanded beyond traditional corporate financial management toward entrepreneurship, corporate finance, M&A and international business development.
Since 2007, I have been involved with State Capital Bancorp as CEO and owner, with activities involving corporate finance, M&A, business development and international markets.
Working across different jurisdictions has also provided extensive exposure to the opportunities and challenges associated with international business, particularly in Europe, the United States and Latin America.
The evolution of international finance
The financial industry has changed dramatically during my career.
Technology has transformed the way financial institutions operate. International businesses have become increasingly interconnected, while clients and entrepreneurs often require financial solutions that cross traditional geographic and institutional boundaries.
At the same time, regulatory requirements have become increasingly important.
Today, international finance requires an understanding not only of financial markets and capital, but also of areas such as regulatory compliance, regulatory compliance, cross-border structures, tax considerations, governance and risk management.
The ability to combine these elements is increasingly important for financial professionals and international businesses.
Private banking and wealth management
My current activities through Fintech SCB focus on international financial services, with particular attention to private banking, international wealth management, corporate finance, international banking and financial structuring.
This environment requires a broader perspective than simply managing financial assets.
International clients may need to consider wealth structuring, holding companies, trusts, SPVs, liquidity management and cross-border financial relationships as part of a broader strategic framework.
The objective should always be to understand the client’s circumstances and develop an appropriate structure within the applicable legal and regulatory framework.
Liquidity management
One area that has become particularly important in international finance is liquidity management.
Liquidity is not simply about having access to cash. It is about understanding where financial resources are located, how they can be used efficiently, what risks exist and how financial structures support the underlying business.
For entrepreneurs and international companies, effective liquidity management can become an important component of financial strategy.
The role of fintech
Fintech has accelerated many of these changes.
Digital technology has made financial services faster, more accessible and increasingly interconnected. However, technology alone does not replace financial experience.
The future of financial services will, in my view, depend on the ability to combine technology, financial expertise, international experience, risk management and regulatory awareness.
This is particularly relevant in private banking and international financial services, where clients often require both sophisticated technology and experienced human judgment.
Looking ahead
After more than 40 years in finance and management, I believe that the fundamentals remain surprisingly consistent.
Successful financial management requires the ability to:
understand the business;
assess opportunities and risks;
structure financial solutions;
monitor performance;
manage liquidity;
improve operational efficiency;
adapt to changing markets;
and make informed strategic decisions.
The tools have changed considerably. The principles have not.
My professional experience, from IBM and telecommunications to corporate finance, State Capital Bancorp and Fintech SCB, has given me the opportunity to observe this evolution from different perspectives.
Today, my focus is on international finance, banking, fintech, private banking, wealth management, corporate finance and strategic financial solutions.
And I believe that the next phase of financial services will be defined by the successful integration of technology, international finance and experienced strategic management.
